Four Dinamo goals in just twenty minutes of play. And that in a derby, in a clash between the first and second teams in the HNL... The Maksimir players defeated Rijeka 4-0 in a league match where they scored their fourth goal as early as the 23rd minute. Both teams had qualified for the Cup final three weeks earlier, where Rijeka managed to get back at the Blues for their league "misfortune" and won the cup. In the league race, however, Dinamo celebrated, and after these four Maksimir goals, they pulled away from second-placed Rijeka by 11 points with six rounds remaining. They shook the net in the 7th minute - Marcelo Brozović played from the left to Domagoj Antolić, who from 17 metres sent a high ball with an effective first-time strike to the right into the penalty area, Duje Čop headed it down parallel to the edge of the six-yard box where Arijan Ademi rushed in and fired into the net. Just six minutes later, thunderous applause erupted from the stands. Josip Pivarić powerfully struck a free kick from 20 metres from the centre, slightly to the left, and with his left foot hit the near post. In the 19th minute it was already 3-0 - El Arabi Hilal Soudani led the attack from the left side and shot from almost the same spot as Pivarić earlier. It was a low ball, goalkeeper Ivan Vargić saved it, but Čop rushed in and slammed it into the goal. Four minutes later, Antolić took a "short corner" from the right side, a free kick one metre from the corner flag, curled it in front of goal, and captain Josip Šimunić headed it into the net. The Blues came close to a fifth goal too. Junior Fernandes in the 58th minute headed down from the left for Čop, who extended it to the right for Soudani, who from six metres completely alone shot first-time and hit goalkeeper Vargić.
