One of the most important matches in the history of the Zagreb club. Građanski, in the penultimate round, in a thrilling "photo-finish" overtook the previously leading BSK from Belgrade, and did so away from home, to claim the championship title. However, the trophy still had to be confirmed in the final round, where they later comprehensively defeated city rivals HAŠK 6-1.

BSK was at the top of the table ahead of the Belgrade clash with one point more than their closest challenger, Građanski. The Blues, as winners of the Zagreb Football Sub-Association, together with second-placed HAŠK, had secured their place in the playoff for the national championship. A single round-robin system was in place, involving six teams that needed to play five rounds in the playoff. Građanski faltered slightly in the 3rd round, drawing 1-1 at home against Jugoslavija from Belgrade, while BSK had a maximum six points. Then, in their direct encounter in Belgrade, the Zagreb side won 2-1 and surged to first place approaching the finish line.

The home team's striker, Dragutin Najdanović, hit the post early in the match, while somewhat later on the other side, Nikola Mika Babić struck the crossbar... If he didn't succeed at first, the popular Mika scored in the second half. In the 55th minute, he was set up by Franjo Joža Giller and placed the ball into the net. Just six minutes later, the hosts equalized. Zvonimir Gmajnički brought down Najdanović in his penalty area, and Kuzman Sotirović converted from the penalty spot. Victory for Građanski was secured by Slavin Cindrić with a skillful turning shot in the 78th minute after an assist from Emanuel Emil Perška. Among the best individual performers in the match was Građanski's goalkeeper, Maksimilian Maks Mihelčič.
