Dinamo – Budućnost 2-0 (Matuš twice from 25 metres)
Two masterful long-range strikes for a comfortable victory and staying at the top of the table... Although both the Maksimir supporters and the media were critical of Dinamo's performance, expecting more convincing play, especially since their opponents, Budućnost from then-Titograd, were bottom of the table, the match still left a strong "aesthetic" impression: two spectacular long-range goals. Dinamo had been convincing from the start of the season, remaining unbeaten through 18 rounds, and they continued this streak against Budućnost with a 2-0 victory. The Blues had defeated Rijeka away at Kantrida with the same scoreline in the previous round and only then took over at the top of the table. This was certainly one of the seasons that Dinamo fans found hardest to "swallow" as the Maksimir players went 21 matches without defeat, only to lose all five of their final matches from rounds 22 to 26, finishing in second place. Nevertheless, the Zagreb blues defeated the Titograd blues who on this occasion played in uncharacteristic red jerseys. The hero of the match was captain Željko Matuš. Although he usually played a defensive role in the team at that time, he was the double goalscorer. First, Stjepan Lamza set him up in the 23rd minute, and Matuš fired from 25 metres into the top corner. A similar scene unfolded in the 60th minute when he struck from a similar distance, this time from a free kick. The ball again flew "into the top corner" and goalkeeper Tatomir Radunović couldn't reach it despite stretching as far as he could with his save attempt. The Blues nearly scored a third goal in the final minute when Slaven Zambata hit the crossbar. After 19 rounds, Dinamo were therefore at the top with 32 points, one ahead of Partizan, while third-placed Željezničar were far behind on 22 points.
