Dinamo entered the new cup competition season as defending champions. And they stumbled at the very first hurdle. The Maksimir side was stopped on their home ground by Ljubljana's Odred, later known as Olimpija. Double scorer for the winning team was Edvard Hočevar, with Ivan Toplak adding one goal. Both goals for Dinamo were scored by Aleksandar Benko.
