Građanski – Rapid Vienna 4-1
Zagreb hosted the then-reigning Austrian champions Rapid from Vienna. They played two consecutive matches in two days, first against HAŠK and then against Građanski, with the "Rapidlers" visiting shortly after they had outplayed Sparta Prague 5-1 in Vienna.
However, in this entire story, there are two somewhat "hidden" great heroes from the later history of the Zagreb club. At the beginning of April, the Zagreb team was taken over by the renowned Hungarian coach Marton Bukovi, who became one of the most important figures of our club, leading the team for more than 10 years, a revolutionary of sorts in coaching tactics at the world level, a strategist who modernized the Zagreb football school. At the Zagreb club, he started with a draw against city rivals HAŠK, six days before Rapid's arrival. Alongside him, the young striker August Lešnik also wore the Zagreb jersey in the match against the Austrian champions, playing as a guest player on loan from Zagreb's Sparta.
Around 6,000 spectators gathered at Građanski's ground. The day before, HAŠK and Rapid had faced each other, with the Vienna team winning 2-1.
The Blues, however, outplayed the Austrians 4-1, with all five goals coming in the first 27 minutes. The net was already breached in the 15th minute by Ivica Medarić after he found his way to goal in a scramble past five defenders.
The next two quick goals, in the 20th and 21st minutes, were created using the same pattern – in both cases, Lešnik skillfully played through Miroslav Mirko Kokotović, who easily beat goalkeeper Rudolf Raftl.
Soon after, Kokotović took on the role of assistant and found Milan Antolković, who placed the ball in the corner for 4-0. Franz Binder reduced the deficit by sending the ball under the crossbar in the 27th minute.
In the second half, the Zagreb players twice rattled the goal frame, first Lešnik hit the crossbar, then Medarić hit the post.
