Dinamo defeated Hajduk 1-0 in the derby and thus somewhat eased the unpleasant feeling following the collapse in the Champions League qualifying round where they were stopped by their namesake, Dynamo Kyiv.

Although the Blues beat Hajduk by a narrow 1-0 margin, they were significantly more convincing on the pitch, creating chances and controlling the game. The only goal was scored by Dumitru Mitu in the opening minutes of the match. Niko Kranjčar intercepted the ball with his chest in front of the opponent, skillfully played through Mitu, who effectively controlled the ball on the run, rushed towards goal and slotted it into the net.

The wet pitch, poor attendance, and the bitterness still present due to both clubs' poor European performances... All of this somewhat dampened the cheerful atmosphere that usually accompanies clashes between Dinamo and Hajduk. A calm and restrained first half followed by Dinamo's sudden awakening in the second... That is the shortest description of the match events.

The tireless Jasmin Agić, inspired Niko Kranjčar and "audacious" Dumitru Mitu were Dinamo's key figures in this match. Kranjčar, for example, played through Mitu with a brilliant outside-of-the-foot pass at the start of the second half, who struck the crossbar with a running volley. In the final 10 minutes, the visiting defenders were clearing the ball from the goal line, while Kranjčar and Mitu twice found themselves one-on-one with the goalkeeper and missed opportunities to find the net.

In this match we also witnessed a rare occurrence in football. Two players entered the game as substitutes in the second half, and shortly after were themselves – substituted. Both due to injuries. Dinamo's striker Mladen Bartolović was on the pitch for only seven minutes, while Hajduk's midfielder Srđan Andrić lasted twice as long, a full 14 minutes.
