Crvena zvezda – Dinamo 1-1 (path to the title)
These were the opening weeks of the season that Dinamo finished as champions. The Blues started the competition with three consecutive victories, and in this 4th round they faced Crvena zvezda in Belgrade. The match was played at Partizan's JNA stadium, and some media outlets highlighted before the encounter that the role of favorites belonged to Dinamo.
30,000 spectators gathered in the stands, which meant the stadium was full. Crvena zvezda took the lead. Predrag Đajić delivered a corner kick in the 23rd minute, the ball flew over Dinamo's goalkeeper Josip Babić, Jovan Jezerkić met it and placed it into the net.
The Blues equalized seven minutes later. Ivica Braco Reiss played the ball to the left wing where Božidar Senčar was positioned, who then embarked on a run, crossed into the middle where Zvonimir Cimermanđić made a run and fired home with his left foot.
Dinamo ran into problems towards the end of the first half. Maksimir's left-back Đuka Strugar injured his knee in the 40th minute and could no longer continue the match at the desired pace.
In those days, substitutions were not yet possible, so injured players in such cases remained on the pitch and acted as passengers. Coaches would position them in the least "harmful" place. So Strugar remained as a passenger on the left wing until the end of the match.
With this draw, Dinamo remained at the top where, after four rounds played, they had seven points. Hajduk and Crvena zvezda collected six points each, while Lokomotiva was fourth with five points.
