Only eight days had passed since Dinamo defeated Real in Madrid in front of 120,000 spectators, and another European treat was already to follow. The Blues had triumphed 4-3 at the packed Bernabéu stadium in Real's main test before the start of the season, and eight days later, on September 11, 1974, Feyenoord visited Maksimir Stadium. The Dutch side had won the UEFA Cup just three months earlier - today's Europa League - and had also become champions of the Netherlands. Moreover, five players who had been in the Dutch national team squad two months earlier in the famous World Cup final in Munich, where Germany narrowly defeated them 2-1, featured in Rotterdam's lineup in Zagreb.

The match in Zagreb was arranged as part of the compensation for Dinamo captain Mladen Ramljak's transfer to Feyenoord. He moved to Rotterdam before the spring of 1974, just before the half-season in which they eventually won the UEFA Cup and the Dutch championship.

Feyenoord had defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the two-legged UEFA Cup final just three months before arriving in Zagreb. Dinamo repeated their brilliant performance from Madrid and celebrated again. This time with a convincing 3-0 victory. So in two European matches against renowned world-class opponents, the Blues scored seven goals. However, right between these two matches, there was also a league encounter against Sloboda from Tuzla at Maksimir... And there they managed only a meager 2-2 draw.

The match against the Dutch was played on Wednesday, and Ramljak arrived in Zagreb on Monday, earlier than his teammates. The visitors fielded their strongest lineup, including Willem van Hanegem, Theo de Jong, Wim Jansen... Ramljak was the captain.

Dinamo was already leading 3-0 after just 15 minutes of play, and hit the crossbar twice more during the rest of the match. The encounter was played in front of 30,000 spectators, and applause was also given to the returnees from injury - Josip Lalić, who had been out for almost a year, and Fikret Mujkić, who returned after a several-month absence. And Mujkić immediately became a double goalscorer.

In the 10th minute, he and Zlatko Cico Kranjčar executed an effective one-two pass and beat the Dutch defense, with Mujkić finishing the move with a goal. Three minutes later, danger arose in front of Dinamo's goal, but goalkeeper Milan Šarović cleared it, caught the ball and immediately launched a quick counter-attack. Ivica Poljak found Kranjčar, who ran alone towards the opposing goalkeeper and scored for 2-0.

Shortly after, the visitors threatened when Ramljak set up his teammate, Austrian international Wilhelm Kreuz, who hit the crossbar. But in the very next attack at the other end, it was 3-0. Poljak made a brilliant run, beating almost the entire opposing defense, reached the goal line and crossed, with Mujkić placing the ball into the net right in front of the goal.

In the 21st minute, Feyenoord's goal frame shook again. Ivica Senzen went past several players in his run and from the right side sent the ball against the post. Senzen created another chance in the 54th minute, crossing into the middle, with Mario Bonić heading the ball against the crossbar. Marijan Čerček had a great opportunity ten minutes later in a one-on-one situation, but he hit the goalkeeper.
