Dinamo – Benfica 2-0 (Stjepan Lamza's farewell)

Dinamo defeated Benfica 2-0 in a friendly match at Maksimir Stadium. It was Stjepan Lamza's farewell appearance, and the Portuguese side played with arguably the most famous squad in their club's history, with legends like Eusébio, Simões, and Torres gracing the Maksimir pitch... For Dinamo, guest players included Hajduk defender Dragan Holcer, Sarajevo star Vahidin Musemuć, and Čelik Zenica player Josip Lalić, who would sign for Dinamo a few months later.

Lamza scored in the 35th minute with a running shot from the left wing that found the top corner for 1-0, while Lalić made it 2-0 in the 41st minute.

"My knee is bothering me, but I gritted my teeth and fought on. It wasn't easy because Dinamo is excellent - they played superbly in the first half, we couldn't even move," said the celebrated Eusébio, one of the greatest footballers of all time...

And the popular Štef was indeed the central figure of the entire story: Benfica's visit added grandeur to Lamza's farewell ceremony.

The match was played in heavy rain, and the Maksimir team had to play without almost their entire defense due to numerous injuries. This is one of the reasons why Hajduk's defender Holcer appeared as a guest player in Dinamo's shirt on this occasion. The Blues had two other reinforcements: Musemuć from Sarajevo and Lalić from Čelik also played.

After his fall at Vila Rebar following the great 4-0 victory against Eintracht in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup semi-final, Lamza only played three more friendly matches for Dinamo: two in 1968 and this one against Benfica.

The Blues won 2-0, with Rudolf Belin setting up both goals. Defender Humberto briefly cleared the ball, but Belin won it back, played a return pass to Lamza, who launched a "projectile" from his running left foot into the goalkeeper's top right corner for 1-0 in the 35th minute. Belin served the ball to Lalić for the Blues' second goal in the 41st minute. Both Belin and Lamza only played the first half before being substituted by Damir Valec and Drago Vabec.
