We remember this match as a true romantic pursuit of the much-anticipated European spring. Dinamo completely outplayed a strong opponent, Turkish side Fenerbahçe, with a brilliant 4-1 performance at the start of the Europa League group stage, and were close to scoring a fifth goal. In the continuation of the competition, the Blues confidently won first place in the group and later reached the Round of 16.

The team was led from the bench by coach Nenad Bjelica, and the Blues took control of the game from the start, showing clear ambitions. Already in the 5th minute, Mislav Oršić tried his luck from distance, but the ball didn't find its target. However, the net shook in the 16th minute. After a quickly taken corner kick, Oršić played a return ball, Izet Hajrović received it and shot against a block, but Mario Gavranović was nearby, brought it down for Ivan Šunjić who precisely placed it into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area. It was also Šunjić's first goal for Dinamo.

The Blues increased their lead in the 27th minute. Gavranović skillfully sent a return pass with his heel past a defender on the right side of the penalty area for Hajrović, who scored in full stride to make it 2-0.

The visitors tried to respond six minutes later when Ismail Köybaşı fired a free kick under the crossbar, but Maksimir goalkeeper Dominik Livaković managed to prevent the goal with a save.

Dinamo came close to a third goal in the 37th minute when Hajrović delivered a corner and Emir Dilaver headed the ball from five metres against the post.

At the start of the second half, the visitors managed to reduce the deficit. After a corner, Mehmet Topal headed the ball to the 'far post'. Roman Neustädter was there and, also with his head, directed it into the net.

However, 10 minutes later Dinamo pulled away again to a two-goal lead. Dani Olmo cleverly slipped between two defenders while they were preparing to calmly clear the ball on the edge of their penalty area in what seemed like a harmless situation. His movement confused them so much that both defenders collided with each other, he ran between them and from the left side, past the onrushing goalkeeper, simply passed the ball to the right for Hajrović who directed it into the empty net for 3-1.

Just three minutes later, in the 60th minute, it was already 4-1. Petar Stojanović, after a one-two with Hajrović, sent a low ball into the penalty area, and Olmo scored to confirm the big victory.

Just two minutes later, Dinamo was on the verge of a fifth goal when Šunjić powerfully struck from 20 metres, but the goalkeeper deflected the ball onto the crossbar.
